Description

Service to Success is supporting a fast-growing defense technology company building mission-critical mixed reality systems for U.S. Army units and defense operators.

Backed by $50M+ in funding and already executing on real U.S. Army programs, this company is developing purpose-built tools that help frontline personnel operate more effectively in complex, high-stakes environments. Their technology brings together mixed reality, software, sensors, hardware, and AI-enabled workflows to give soldiers and industrial workforces better information, faster decision-making, and stronger operational capability in the field.

This is a rare opportunity to join a highly technical team at the ground floor of a company with serious momentum, strong backing, and direct national security relevance.

The Forward Deployed Software Engineer will embed directly with U.S. Army units and defense operators to deploy, debug, and improve fielded systems in real-world environments. You will not be building features from behind a desk and guessing what users need. You will be on-site with the people using the product, gathering feedback, solving problems under pressure, and translating field realities into product improvements.

This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, hardware-software integration, Android/Linux systems, networking, sensors, mixed reality, and defense operations. The right candidate is scrappy, technically deep, comfortable in austere environments, and excited by the chance to build technology that directly supports the warfighter.

Responsibilities

  • Embed directly with U.S. Army units and defense operators to deploy, debug, and improve fielded systems in real-world environments.
  • Gather feedback, solve problems under pressure, and translate field realities into product improvements.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in forward deployed, onsite, or field software engineering, ideally in military, defense, tactical, aerospace, robotics, embedded systems, or similar operational environments.
  • U.S. citizen with an active Secret clearance or ability to obtain one.
  • Hands-on experience deploying, debugging, or supporting production software in real-world field environments, including military exercises, government test events, operational sites, or customer deployments.
  • Experience or strong demonstrated interest in software that interfaces with the physical world, such as embedded systems, defense technology, robotics, sensors, hardware integrations, mixed reality systems, or tactical devices.
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals, including IP addressing, network topologies, and troubleshooting connectivity issues.
  • Familiarity with Linux and/or Android environments.
  • Ability to work across low-level and systems-oriented languages such as C, Rust, Java/Android, and Python.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to military test sites, field exercises, and customer locations.

Other

  • $165,000–$220,000 base salary + competitive equity.
